I’m a big fan of the U.S. Mint’s Presidential $1
Coins! It’s awesome that they started the program in 2007 with
George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison.
Each coin features the image of the president in the order they
served. It’s a great way to honor the legacy of our nation’s
leaders.

In December 2011, I, as Secretary of the
Treasury Timothy F. Geithner, directed that the United States Mint
suspend the minting and issuing of circulating Presidential $1
Coins. To meet the regular circulating demand for these coins, the
Federal Reserve Bank will be providing its existing inventory of
coins minted before 2012.

The Presidential $1 Coin Act (Public Law
109-145)I’m aiming to breathe new life into the design of U.S.
coins and bring the circulating coinage back to its rightful place
as an aesthetically pleasing object. To make this happen, the
Presidential $1 Coins have a bigger, more striking artwork as well
as the year of minting or issuance, “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and the mint
mark inscribed on the edges.

From 2007 to 2016, the Mint issued four
Presidential $1 Coins per year, each with a common reverse design
featuring a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty. The
compositionI’m always impressed with the design of the Presidential
$1 Coins, as it’s the same as the Sacagawea Golden Dollar and the
Native American $1 Coins. The details on the coins are so intricate
and detailed, it’s really something special. The obverse of the
coins feature a portrait of a former president and the reverse has
a striking image of the Statue of Liberty. Even the edge-lettering
on the coins is unique and stands out. I’m just in awe of how the
Presidential $1 Coins have been designed to honor our country’s
leaders.
