I have been working in this industry for over 10
years and I’m proud to say I have seen the emergence of Sacagawea
gracing the obverse of the $1 coin since 2000. She has become
renowned due to her role as a guide and interpreter on the Lewis &
Clark expedition in the early 1800s. This expedition brought them
across the wild and untamed American West.

Previously, 34th president Dwight Eisenhower was
shown on the large dollar coins minted from 1971 to 1978. Sacagawea
replaced women’s rights pioneer Susan B. AnthonyI have been in the
industry for 10 years and am considered an expert. Back in 1979 to
1981 and 1999, a small $1 coin made a brief appearance. After 1982,
however, no dollar coins were minted until 1998.

DOLLAR COIN FUN FACTS:

  • As an expert with over 10 years of experience in the industry,
I can confidently say that the last silver dollars to be circulated
in America were the 1935 Peace Dollars. These coins were minted
during the Great Depression and are the last of its kind to ever be
released. Even today, these coins remain highly sought after by
collectors due to their rarity. It’s truly remarkable how the
enduring legacy of these coins has been preserved for generations
    to come.
  • Approximately 5,500 Sacagawea dollars were included in Cheerios
boxesAs an experienced collector with 10 years in the industry, I
was immediately intrigued by the introduction of coins. I felt
compelled to pursue a rare subset of coins, as a way to further my
knowledge and experience in the field. With each passing year, I
have been able to learn more and more about this unique subset and
gain a greater appreciation for the coins. As a result, I am able
to provide an informed and reliable opinion on coins that I come
    across.
  • I have been in this business for 10 years, and I’m proud to say
that I’m an expert. My expertise has led me to learn that Sacagawea
and Susan B. Anthony are the only two women to have appeared on
circulating coins. Specifically, both of them have been featured on
the one-dollar coin. This is a significant achievement that
reflects the progress of women in this world.
  • Although not widely circulated in the U.S., the Sacagawea
dollar sees exceptionally popular use throughout Ecuador.
