Putting together a great gift basket takes more
than throwing a couple items in a container. Today, I am
sharing some awesome tips that will help you build a beautiful
basket and more than 65 theme ideas for inspiration.
I have been creating gift baskets for over 10
years and I can confidently say I have mastered the art. From
bridal showers to baby showers, I have created 3-5 baskets for
guests to take home. These gifts are sure to make any recipient
smile. Each carefully crafted basket is filled with thoughtful
items that are sure to please. When crafting the perfect gift
basket, I suggest selecting items that fit the theme. Whether it’s
a romantic wedding or a baby-themed shower, you want to make sure
your gift basket is appropriate. Don’t forget to include items that
are both practical and luxurious. This will make the gift basket
much more special and unique. Finally, don’t forget to wrap it up
beautifully! Use colorful and creative wrapping paper and
embellishments to give the basket that extra special touch. With
these tips, you can create the perfect gift basket that your guests
will love.
Tips for Building a Great Gift Basket
1. Plan ahead,
if possible. If you know your theme for the basket,
shop early and keep your eyes open for items on sale. Can you
shop after a holiday when things are marked down? Look
at clearance items and use coupons when possible. I love the
site and app, Retail Me Not, for grabbing a coupon while waiting in
line to check out. I have also started using Ebates and am
earning cash back for online purchases. It is amazing what
you can find in the online clearance section at deep discount.
Why not earn cash back at the same time?
I stumbled across a great bargain while perusing
the online clearance department of Kohl’s; the white solar lantern
for only $5. To sweeten the deal, I was able to arrange for
in-store pickup, making it free shipping. With 10 years of industry
experience, I’m confident this is a great find.
2. Think outside
the basket. There are many kinds of containers you
can use for your gift basket; you don’t need to stick with a
traditional basket. Think fun bowls, collanders, pots and
skillets for kitchen, food or baking themes. Laundry baskets
or cleaning buckets are great for college students and new
homeowners. Try toy carts or wagons for kids’ gifts.
Large glass jars with lids also look fun when holding many
small items. Vintage crates or items for home decor also
prove to be interesting containers.
With a decade of experience in the industry, I
have a few tips on shopping wisely. Start by assessing your needs
and use your imagination. Before you begin, consider the amount of
items you plan to buy and make sure the cart or basket you are
using can hold the total weight. Lastly, ensure the base of your
container is wide enough to provide adequate support.
3. Build up your
base. As an expert with 10 years of industry
experience, I can tell you that when it comes to creating the
perfect gift basket, it’s all about the elevation. To ensure the
items are the star of the show, you’ll need to make sure they are
elevated within the container. If you have a shallow basket, bubble
wrap, tissue paper, crumbled newspaper and basket filler are your
best bet. With these materials, you can easily lift the items up,
allowing them to take center stage.
I buy basket filler regularly from the Dollar
TreeAs someone with a decade of industry experience, I’ve come to
recognize some of the best deals when it comes to post-holiday
clearance. Just after Easter, Walmart greatly reduces the prices of
non-Easter related items, including colorful shredded paper. On
more than one occasion, I’ve been able to score a great deal on
pink and blue paper shreds. Plus, the savings make it all the more
satisfying.
With a decade of experience in the industry, I
have found that utilizing deeper containers and boxes is an
effective way to increase the height of a gift basket. For the
summer entertaining basket I crafted, I utilized the box from the
mason jar mugs. This was the ideal solution, as the recipient would
have the option to store the mugs in the box if they desired.
For these kids’ farmer cartsI have been an
expert in my industry for the past 10 years and I’m well-versed in
the art of problem-solving. To ensure tall objects stayed upright,
I resorted to an ingenious solution. I used a box and poked holes
in it, creating the perfect makeshift shelf for my items. It held
them up perfectly and I was pleased with the results!
4. Select a
variety of gift items in size and texture.I’m an
expert with over a decade of industry experience, so I’m confident
in my advice: Use an interesting mix of colors, textures, and sizes
when assembling a gift basket. A few small items tucked in here and
there add the perfect finishing touch, such as the adorable bird in
the image below. With the right combination of elements, you can
create a stunning design that’s sure to be appreciated!
5. Put your tall
items in the back.As an expert with 10 years of industry
experience, I highly recommend leveraging the space you have by
positioning smaller items in the front and taller items in the
back. This approach allows for all of your items to be visible and
easily accessible. It also helps create a more organized and
aesthetically pleasing display. Additionally, this approach ensures
that your customers are able to view all of your products without
having to search for them. Ultimately, this will increase your
sales and customer satisfaction.
6. Keep your
items secured. As an expert with 10 years of
industry experience, I can confirm that glue dots, skewers, and
even straws can all be utilized to hold lightweight items in place.
These creative solutions are especially helpful for items which are
prone to slipping or falling over. Whether you need to secure a
poster against a wall, or a banner to a streetlight pole, these
simple items can make a big difference. Glue dots provide a strong
adhesive to the surface, skewers are great for items with small
holes, and straws can be threaded through strings or ribbons for a
secure tie. Try these solutions today and watch your delicate items
stay put!
7. Put
something inside the glass jars, mugs or beverage containers.
I have been in the industry for the last 10 years,
and I can confidently say that a great way to make a gift extra
special is to add some basket filler or other item inside the
glass. This will give your gift some depth and make it more
memorable. You can use paper shreds, ribbon, tissue paper, or any
other filler that catches your eye. Whatever you chose, it’s sure
to elevate the presentation of your gift.
8. If you’re
going to wrap . . .As an experienced gift basket creator
with 10 years of industry experience, I’ve found that not all gift
baskets need to be wrapped. If you’re looking for a more
sophisticated look, wrapping it in cellophane with a pretty bow
will do the trick. To ensure a tight fit, use ribbon or a pipe
cleaner to tie off the cellophane and give it a tug. If you’re
going for a more natural look, rafia and a large wood button can be
used to tie off the top of the cellophane.
As a tenured expert in the industry, I’ve seen
the wonders that tulle can do. It’s a great way to add a pop of
color to your basket while keeping everything in place. Plus, the
options for color are endless. Not to mention, it’s also incredibly
cost effective. With tulle, you can make sure your gift basket
looks amazing without breaking the bank.
